Living it UP in University Park

Southern Methodist University, which was chartered by the state of Texas on April 17, 1911, officially opened in 1915. Homes were built in the area to house staff and faculty. By 1924, there were more than 380 homes, and the city of University Park was incorporated. Due to the rapidly expanding university, and growth of the nearby city of Dallas, University Park grew exponentially, and reached a population of close to 28,500 by 1956. One of its bordering neighbors is Highland Park, and together, the two are called “Park Cities”.

Luxury City Amenities

University Park, with its magnificent upscale homes, is only a seven-minute drive to downtown Dallas, and a short walk to the SMU Campus and George Bush Presidential Library and Museum. University Park is in close proximity to fine dining, museums, and shopping including - Snider Plaza, Highland Park Village, and NorthPark Mall.

In the 3.7 square miles that constitute University Park, there are at least eight green parks along with many other first-class city amenities. There are soccer fields, lighted tennis courts, kid’s playgrounds, Holmes Aquatic Center, walking trails including the Katy Trail, baseball fields and city libraries.

Highland Park Independent School District

The City of University Park is in the exceptionally ranked Highland Park Independent School District (HPISD), assuring an excellent education for area residents and their children. In 2015, there was an important bond election where University Park and Highland Park residents voted $361 million dollars to update most of the older school buildings with brand new ones. Now in 2019, much of the newer construction on the areas school are in its final stages. University Park residents have seen the value of their homes appreciating at a higher percentage because of the new school facilities.

Most real estate professionals agree that University Park is a wise investment for building a new custom home - because of its longevity, excellent school system and education, area amenities offered to residents, lower real estate rates, smaller local government and municipalities for the Park Cities along with their own police and fire departments.

University Park - A Wise Investment

“As a professional custom home builder, I especially admire the scenic beauty of this special city. University Park is an older and more established neighborhood, so you get beautiful streetscapes with all the mature trees,“ says Greg Alford of Alford Homes. It's a wise investment and why Alford Homes has chosen to build in University Park for the past 30 years.
